A routine laboratory service is offered for customers of Imerys Metalcasting Solutions. Analyses of individual molding sands performed in our laboratories include both the chemical and physical properties of the sand samples.

Methodology for test procedures employed is dictated by the standards of the German VDG “Merkblaetter” Institute pertaining to Group P and the analysis of basic molding materials, and especially the bentonite clay-bonded variety.

Additional investigations of materials may include simultaneous thermal analyses (differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetry). Full characterization of emissions discharged during pyrolysis of specimens relating to BTEX, and other HAPs is also possible. Cooperation between both regional and global R&D laboratories within the Imerys group and, the utilization of various external institutes and laboratories, enables us where required, to provide an overall picture of specimens encompassing all aspects related to the control of the sand recycling process and the relevant associated parameters.

Our pool of analytical equipment and systems enables a detailed characterization and analysis of samples submitted for investigations. The chemical, mineralogical and physical data determined is stored in our electronic database and can be retrieved by the specimen owner on demand.
